After visiting Texola, we decided we needed a place to stay for the night. Our options were thin on the eastern panhandle of Texas. We didn't want to bypass this area completely in the night and try for Amarillo, but everything in Shamrock was booked up and a lot of the other motels either didn't take critters, which left Tima out, or they didn't have good ratings when we read up on them. Some places we called didn't even bother to answer their phones. So we ended up staying off the route in Clarendon, Texas, at a Best Western. Childress is actually about 17 miles south of the route. Our biggest sin was bypassing some places, like the Shamrock Conoco station. I guess that is more bad road Karma for us.
