Today is Downbeat Coffee House's one year anniversary. Emily Madison owner with partner Todd Burd. Emily started this place to have a coffeehouse in her own neighborhood and wanted to bring different flavored coffee to Kansas City. To accomplish that goal, she ships her coffee from her favorite roaster Mill Coffee, out of her home town of Lincoln, Nebraska. She says she has known the guys at Mill Coffee since she was a kid and they used to sponsor her reggae festivals. Together with Todd Burd, Emily owns and operates a record label called Rougher Records which does dub, reggae. roots, ska and jazz. Emily and Todd do other music projects together and desperately and Todd plays in Kansas City's own veteran reggae act, Blue Riddim Band. To celebrate Downbeat's one year anniversary, there is a 45 RPM pop up record sale with tunes being spun by DJ's S Ranx, Jabberock and Richmo.
