Not So Much Fun, Anymore, But I Appreciate it in Different ways.

River traffic in New Orleans is always a draw, and is a fun activity to be a boat nerd.  However, New Orleans, or someone should invest in some riverfront web cams because I think there are a lot of people who come to gaze at the river traffic -- you know, "sittin' on the doc of the bay" kinda thing.

a barge and tug....

So, I vent quite a lot in the video, as the bad thing is happening.  I don't know if this is a big city thing, or if this is just New Orleans screwing the tourists.  We ended up paying way more for a room than advertised.  In retrospect our original plans were to get a room on the outskirts and maybe spend a few hours in places like the French Quarter.  Then we could have maybe gone up the coast into Mississippi and visited other places.  When we got taken in by a falsely advertised low hotel price, we ended up being captive to only the environs of our hotel. So live and learn.  Do not stay in New Orleans if you don't have to.  There is so much more to southern Louisiana and Mississippi than just the French Quarter.
The end of the Jefferson Highway

To see the beginning of the Jefferson Highway, go here....

This map shows where the end of the Jefferson Highway is in New Orleans

The first outing with the family is in what I used to know as the Algiers Ferry.  It used to be free and hauled cars as well as people.  Now it is called the St Charles line, or something like that, and it has new ferry boats.

I wanted to go visit Mardi Gras World, but I guess I took a long hot hike to the wrong place....

I think the Mardi Gras World I want to go visit is across the river....

And, of course, I had to go visit the French Quarter at night....  This time I livestreamed the experience.  I didn't bring a gimbal this time, so I hope it is not too shaky.

Leaving New Orleans -- Headed Home...

We didn't document too much of this part of our trip, except for one restaurant we had dinner at.  For this, we relied on the recommendation of Guy Fieri....

And, then, of course, the clean up... Sand is hard to get out of your car....
