Today we went on an outing to the south part of Cebu Province.  We visited a tourist area and natural wonder spot known as Kawasan Falls.

We stopped by the Cebu Bus Terminal to drop Ma off, so she can go vote at her home on Bantayan Island

Elections are held at the public schools, and are a big event with last minute campaigning.  The news media later on that evening talked up the violence, but we didn't see any of that, for the most part, it seemed like a peaceful process

Jollibee is a filipino owned fast food chain.  It is their version of McDonalds, and is very popular.  I was starting to feel under the weather, so fast food was not the best choice.  Let's just say that Jollibee was not so jolly to me.

As you travel around, you notice subtle differences in the designs of the popular forms of transportation
IMG_3119
As we zipped through the countryside of southern Cebu Province, I snapped pictures of the parade of busses passing by, as each bus seemed to be a colorful parade in their own right.

Every once in a while, you happen upon an older style of architecture that reminds you of the magnificence of the Filipino style

Usually, however, the streets look like this
IMG_3140
People are everywhere and they need to get around
IMG_3142
When you pass from one side of Cebu province to the other, you will come upon the rural mountain roads, and their switchbacks
IMG_3143
Even in the country, any form of transport is usually overused and overloaded

After the noise and chaos of the roads, we visit beautiful, serene, and relatively quiet crystal clear Kawasan falls.

Philippines 2010 Day 4

Sunday 24 October 2010

At the center of almost every filipino town is a catholic church, and at the center of almost every filipino's life, is religion.

Some say that the Philippines main export is Filipinos.  The government sponsors and Overseas Guest Worker program that exports labor all over the world, mainly to the middle east.  In return, filipinos get an opportunity to earn money and send it back home to their families.  My brother in law is no exception.  He is working as an engineer in Dubai.  He is building his dream home for his family here in the Philippines from a design he made.
