July First Friday Pix

One of the most patriotic things you could do on the Fourth of July is BUY ART!

As the summer heat builds, and the gallery ac systems fail to keep up, or are non-existant, more galleries take a break from 1st Friday in Kansas City.  However, this July was an excellent time for people from the Johnsons and elsewhere to stroll around, people watch, visit with friends and, oh yeah, look at some art.  1st Friday is an excellent example of what a liveable city could be like every weekend, and even into the week.  KC likes to be liveable one day a month.

I heard a nasty rumor on facebook, and I hope it isn't true, Arts Incubator is closed, and possibly for good.

For the most part, everything was bustling, and the weather was very cooperative.  Painting competitions and displays seem to be catching on as there were several places where artists were showing off their skill and technique..

What do you do when it gets hot?  Why, you take your clothes off of course.  On the east side of the district, people were celebrating the human body with clothes that were painted on, nude photos, etc.

I saw a bar in Key West that was like that -- clothing optional.  Oh, I visited a beach in Miami that was the same.  I'd like to see the chains of shame broken in the conservative midwest, however, whenever people start taking their clothes off, often the wrong crowd soon shows up and it becomes something that is no longer fun.  I would invite all the galleries to remain open in August, and people to undress for the occasion to the degree that remains decent (won't get you arrested or embareass parents) and to a level that makes you comfortable.
