Barber shop, Mandaue, Cebu. Two things that I could afford on this vacation that I can rarely get in the states -- a true shave with a straight razor, and massages. I can find no place in the states that will shave the old fashioned way with a straight razor. It costs about 50 pesos here, which is a little over a dollar. Massages were running anywhere from ten to 15 dollars. Since my back has been hurting lately, why not? The massages did me good.

While in the Philippines, I decided I wanted to shoot an SVO a day. I didn't really reach that goal, which I never expected I would, but I did get some good footage. One of the story ideas that Ninoy and I came up with was what we tentatively titled "Joe with a ho." "Joe with a ho" is what a lot of people say when they see a european or American with a local woman, usually as a joke. Often you see an over 50 year old european man walking hand in hand with a much younger woman, and by much younger, I mean anywhere between 18, (and sometimes younger) to 20 something. By over 50, I mean way over 50, usually -- like oftentimes 70's and 80's. You can see the comedy. Many of these young girls are escorts, special friend, or, lets just say, prostitutes. They will approach you on the streets, or oftentimes, you can pick them up in the bars which cater to this kind of business. So we decided to do a "Joe with a ho" SVO. It evolved into more than an SVO. While in Fuente Osmena circle, we offered to take a picture of a nice young woman, who offered us a little more than a picture. She was the first person we interviewed on this subject matter.

Finally... I have my handy dandy google calender with all the upcoming events in the area and beyond...
