Every Year We try to Make it to Some of our Favorite Route 66 Spots in Missouri and Kansas
Red Oak II
We are disappointed to find out that Lowell Davis, the creator of Red Oak II, has passed away. Rose, his widow, is very accommodating. We spent some time when we arrived Saturday catching up. We were planning to arrive Friday night, but, it was hard for us to get packed up, loaded and out by Friday evening after our work week.
Unwinding, Change of scenery. Revisiting one of our favorite sights and sounds for memorial weekend 2021.
The kids are posing in one of Lowell Davis' many art installations and gardens...
20210529 Route 66 Salem Country Church Saturday Music Jam and Red Oak II at Night
We arrived at the church to catch the tail end of the music jam. Siah was really ready to perform for the musicians and the people who were left. They were very patient with us and had a soft spot for the kids.

When we got to the RV we made dinner on the grill then met a white cat named Trumpet. We also pet him. That night we sang songs in the Red Oak church.

We bypassed the Marsh Arch, or Rainbow bridge the last time we were through here. This bridge in southeast Kansas is a famous landmark on the route.
20210529 “Crazy Legs” at The Baxter Springs Route 66 Center
Dean "Crazy Legs" Walker gets his name from the fact that he can turn his feet completely backwards. He is the inspiration for the ability of Tow Mater in the Movie "Cars" being able to drive in reverse. It is cool to meet a "Cars" character in person.
