Covid-19 Experiences

Here are some personal videos I have done since March.  The coronavirus has come to dominate our lives.  So far nobody I know has been diagnosed with it.  However, life has come to resemble a sci-fi movie.  I would love to be able to walk out of this theater.

Each of us has a unique perspective on history.  Quite literally, a lot of us have an easy chair view as it is happening and as we are experiencing it.  My viewpoint is no more or less special as anyone else's.  So, please, do not take me posting my pictures and videos in a vlogging format as a weird form of narcissism.  I am just sharing my personal experiences with the covid-19 pandemic -- nothing more or less.

We start in the run up to the quarantine in March, with life seeming to be normal, but we could see on the horizon the trouble coming...

Stocking up at Costco on March 11.  I sensed that there might be shortages.  I never thought that toilet paper would be something people would hoard in mass quantities...
The lines weren't bad yet, but in the next few days all hell would break loose...
This video is titled a Week of Covid-19.   I think after all the sports events and St. Patricks Day were cancelled, it finally dawned on everyone how serious and historic this pandemic is.

Oh boy!
What can you say to all the problems and adaptations we have to go through.  It could be worse.  We found that the weekends are actually the roughest part.  Who would think that going to work would be a welcome relief.  Many people are jobless...

This was the last time we got to eat in at a restaurant.  We were celebrating getting our taxes done....

People buy up everything in order to make themselves feel in control.  Unfortunately, even this shows how out of control of the situation they really are...

Things start to calm down as we get used to what people are calling the new normal.  Things could be a lot worse!

People really need to calm down!

In order to shop at Best Buy, you have to pre-order what you want and pick it up at the store.  In store shopping is not allowed.

April Fools!  How we wish it was all a joke!  However, the one thing that seems constant is change.  I went in to get tested for Covid 19.  I started showing some symptoms, which I think are more related to left over bronchitis from the flu I had earlier in the year.  However, all the women in my life insist that I am coming down with it.  I didn't get tested, of course.  Don't get me started on that.  I did get quarantined for two weeks though.  That means that I am one of the lucky ones who get to work from home now.  I am so glad that the people I work with figured out a way that it could be done.  I really feel blessed during this time.

Oh, and trying to find things you need like thermometers are just as bad as trying to find toilet paper...

Schools are cancelled for the rest of the year.  So kids are using technology to distance learn.
Our kids receive a video greeting from their teacher after spring break.
The schools were delivering lunch via school bus at the bus stops to their kids.  However, after two weeks the school bus deliveries were deemed to much of a risk, and now we have to go to the schools to pick up the lunches.  It sure helps out a lot as it stretches our supply of food and means we have to make less risky trips to the grocery stores.

The only relief many people are getting is going to parks to exercise in the fresh air.  It is allowed as long as people keep their distance.
Parkville, Missouri seems eerie with no cars.
Going into businesses is also a thing of the past.  To get our cat treated we had to wait in the parking lot while the staff came out to get our cat.
The same is true at the bank, we are allowed drive through only, no more lobby service.
Downtown North Kansas City is also looking eerily deserted....
Lesser traffic on the highways is nice but eerie...

Then comes holy week!  Celebrations like Easter during the pandemic are quite an interesting affair.

In the week after holy week, we try to maintain healthy routines.  My hours changed yet again at work, back to my old schedule.  I continue to adapt to editing from home.  We work hard at school and being teachers and at work.  Suyen is still suffering from whatever she has.  We can't know if it is Covid-19 because she can't get tested.  Again, don't get me started on that!
