Googie architecture in Kansas City....
I find this building interesting, in its theme of the post and beam construction. The handles of the door mimic the over all shape of the building. The angular construction idea is offset in contrast by the metal oval grill over the windows. By the appearances of this building, it looks like it was a drive through bank built in either the late 50's or early 60's. It is definitely mid-century modern. Sometime, probably in the 80's, it ceased being a bank, and was converted into a little restaurant. I remember it being called Max's Auto Diner a few years back. Max's Auto Diner had about 3 stores in the area. One is still open, but is owned by a nice greek owner who specialized in gyro's. That one is on Wornall, in the Waldo area of Kansas City. I have come to enjoy mid-century modern architecture, and it's quaint view of an optimistic future. It now advertises itself as Messy's. I got the opportunity, finally to take a closer look at this building, which is still being used as a restaurant. I hope you enjoy these pictures...
