While we were taking pictures at the Wig Wam, we met a couple from San Francisco who are touring the route. They asked if we could take their picture. Yesterday, Suyen took their picture at Cadillac Ranch. At the end of our day, we saw them again walking down the street in Williams, Arizona.

From here on now its all new route. Unfortunately, in the past we've only taken the highway for a lot of this route.
We left Joe and Aggies Restaurant, and drove around the block which consisted of Navajo Boulevard and west Hopi drive. To the northwest of Joe and Aggies is an interesting mural that depicts the railroad history of the town.
Taking west Hopi drive westbound, we exited at 40 westbound. We past Geronimo trading post to the west of town.
We exited at the Joseph City exit and took old 66/Main Street through town. At the west side exit, we crossed over the innerstate and took the south outer road west. At the next exit, we crossed over to the north of the highway and rejoined innerstate 40.

We just arrived at the Jack Rabbit. Just as we got a bit of serendipity happened here as a train came by just perfect so I can get the sign and the train on video.

we talked about the assigned to use to be all up and down Route 66 and the she told me that when the the a 40 came through they made her take all the signs down for that made them take all the signs down.

no I got that stupid song stuck in my head
Well, I'm running down the road
Tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that wanna own me
Two that wanna stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy
Take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Well, I'm a standing on a corner
In Winslow, Arizona
And such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my lord
In a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby
Don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love
Is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up, I'm climbin' in
And take it easy
Well I'm running down the road
Tryin' to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover
Who won't blow my cover
She's so hard to find
Take it easy
Take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Make you crazy
Come on baby
Don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love
Is gonna save me
Oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy
At NM 87, we exited and took the south outer road into Winslow. Route 66 splits in Winslow. 3rd street is one way and is the westbound lanes of 66. 2nd street is the eastbound lanes. We took 3rd street to North Kinsley Avenue south to the site of "Standin' on the Corner" which is dedicated to the Eagles song written by Jackson Browne.

After visiting the "standing on the corner" site, we headed east on 2nd street (eastbound 66) past the la Posada Hotel. We stopped at the valentine diner on the north side of the street which is for sale. We then took North Snider Avenue one block and headed west on East 3rd Street (wesbound 66) through town. We rejoined I-40 at the west Winslow exit.
It is all highway for awhile. Everytime we've come through here, we passed by the Twin Arrows Trading post. This trip I was determined to pull off and get some pictures.
We drove I-40 past the Meteor Crater to Twin Arrows. Twin Arrows trading post is empty and abandoned. To get to it, we exited at the new twin arrows casino exit and crossed over the highway to the south and got on the outer road. There we found our way to the end of the barrier and entered the property on a dirt road onto the old parking lot.
After taking our pictures at Twin Arrows, we re entered I-40 westbound to Winona Arizona. We followed this to US 89, and headed southwest into Flagstaff, Arizona.
"Don't forget Winona"
We exitied the highway at county road 394/Townsend Winona road.

Flagstaff
US 89 becomes Old Santa Fe in Flagstaff, then becomes west route 66. We followed this back to the interchange with I-40.

We followed I-40 to Garland. We exited and headed north, until we came to a T, and turned left on the next road, which took us to Brannigan Park Road/Old Highway 66. At Cool Pines road, we rejoined the innerstate.
We took I-40 to 64, the Williams exit, into the last segment of route 66 that was bypassed, in 1984.
