Sunday, May 19, 2013 18:58:24
We decided to ride the gust front back through town as there was some isolated cells initiating out ahead of the main line on the east and northeast part of KC.  We knew we would have a hard time catching them.  The gust front got ahead of us on I-35 in Olathe and we spend a lot of time in the heavy rain and gusty winds on the interstates (I-35 and I-70) in the Kansas suburbs and Kansas City heading eastward with the line.

We made it to Oak Grove Missouri where we got gas at the cheapest gas in town,  Then we headed south to see if we could intercept some new storms that were forming to the southwest in Kansas, one that was tornado warned.

Sunday, May 19, 2013 20:50:18
Heading south through downtown Oak Grove
On US 50 north of Pleasant Hill, 4 miles east of 7 and US 50, we intercepted a very strong storm that we saw forming right over Pleasant Hill on our phone app radar.  By the time we got to that point, we were in a bad spot as we were punching the core of the storm that formed over our heads.  We rushed to pull off at 7 highway to see if we could find an awning as there seemed to be some hail coming down.  Fortunately the storms initiated and then weakened.  There were various severe warnings and extensions of the tornado watch for eastern Kansas and Western, Missouri.  We headed back to drop off our the video and go home.
