20170609 Rt 66 Hinton Oklahoma to Amarillo Texas

Leaving Hinton, Oklahoma
After our cheap stay at the Sugar Creek Casino, we got a fairly early start.  I wanted to eat at a diner, and I had just the place I wanted to try.  But first, we had a stop to make....
Abandoned truck stop on Route 66, north of Hinton, Oklahoma.

Dome house, one of many we see on our trip...
Continuation of well preserved Oklahoma concrete highway with curbs...
Pony truss bridge...

Hydro Oklahoma and Lucille's
We have often sped by here.  This time is different.
There are videos online of Lucille Hammons.  From the videos a sense can be drawn of the type of hospitality, that now, sadly, cannot be seen on the interstate which roars past this point.
Navion and Lucille's...
Look outside and see the old gas pumps...
Look inside and you don't have to imagine much, as not much has changed...
Will Rogers Highway marker...
This is the auto court which was another means of income.  It appears to be now used as apartments, which are occupied.  So, do not peek in windows thinking this is part of a museum display.
Working space downstairs and living space upstairs...
The interstate is danger close!
No diesel!?
A family was raised up here.

Navion posing for family photo's...
Time for obligatory family photo's...
Stella is always looking away from the camera...

Trying to get the dawgs in the shot...

The oil derrick is part of a propane company....
West from Weathorford
Weathorford is the center of and is very proud of it's renewable energy farm...
More of the concrete highway as the trees disappear and the west starts to begin....
Bear Creek bridge, I-40 is just to the north of here...

Sugar Creek Casino is nowhere near here.  It is just the last place I searched on Google Maps, and I didn't clear it out...
Clinton, Oklahoma
Our first stop in Clinton, Oklahoma was when we stopped at the great museum here for the first time.  We didn't stop this time, so I have a link to our first visit...

Often the route parallels the interstate where you can see traffic zooming past you as you take the slower route.  It is the same scenery, just slower.  Also, in a bigger vehicle, like an rv, it can be scary at times as the road cut to make the freeway flatter is just inches from your tire it seems.  I'm just making excuses for breaking karma with the road.  Look at that bridge over there....

Sayre, Oklahoma
Sayre, Oklahoma can be remembered for the courthouse in a fading shot in the film adaptation for the Grapes of Wrath..
